LSA Will Host A General Election On 22nd July 2023

The Liberian Swedish Association Election Commissioner, LSAEC released a full-scale document containing the Rules and Guidelines for LSA's upcoming General Election scheduled for Saturday, 22nd July 2023. The document was released on Sunday, the 14th of May via LSA's various social media platforms (WhatsApp and Facebook page). As required, the document was created in accordance with Chapter XVI of the LSA Constitution.


The Rules and Guidelines state that the election will be a hybrid of physical in-person and telephone/SMS voting. The in-person voting will be held at a polling center in Stockholm at Hägerstensåsens BP (Football field), Personnevägen 35, Hägersten. And, the telephone voting is slated for the same day, for qualified voters who might not be able to attend the in-person voting due to reason(s) beyond their control {i.e., out of the country, sick, etc.}. To be qualified, voters must submit their full name and national registered telephone number (subject to verification) prior to the date of the election.



Additionlly, voting is open to all registered LSA members. However, all members must meet the LSAEC rules and guidelines to be eligible to vote, and those who wish to run for office must submit their candidacy application. All candidates must fulfill the criteria set out in the document and any violation of the rules could result in disqualification.


Moreover, aspirant candidates and voters are urged to settle all financial and other commitments with the LSA. As such, they must be dues-paying members for the last two years and must be in regular attendance at the LSA monthly meetings.


The electoral positions for the upcoming election are President, Vice President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, telephone Secretary, Treasurer, and Chaplain.


Additionally, the timeline and activities for the election are as follows:

1. Registration dates for candidates are May 13 - June 03, 2023

2. Announcement of registered candidates June 12, 2023.

3. Official campaigning starts on June 21, 2023.

4. Official campaigning ends on July 10, 2023.

5. Election date July 22, 2023.

6. Announcement of winners July 23, 2023.


More information on the election process, including the list of eligible candidates will be released in the weeks leading up to the election. All members are encouraged to read the document carefully and ensure they understand and follow the rules and regulations.
