Updated: Feb 23

Liberia mourns the loss of one of its distinguished sons,

Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, the founder and political leader of the Liberian Liberty Party (LP), passed away on Wednesday afternoon, November 20, 2019. According to reports from the Liberian news outlet, FrontPage Africa, Mr. Brumskine had been battling illness for an extended period and underwent cancer treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Though he had returned home to Virginia, USA, after leaving the hospital several months prior, his health deteriorated, prompting his return to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Family and friends remember the deceased as an icon of the Liberty Party, a devoted family man, an exceptional lawyer, and one of Liberia's most dedicated and prominent politicians.

Mr. Brumskine's political career saw him contesting the Liberian presidency thrice—in the 2005, 2011, and 2017 elections, respectively. Before his political endeavors, he served as the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate in 1997, during the administration of former President Charles Taylor. Additionally, Mr. Brumskine established one of Liberia's premier law firms, Brumskine & Associates, where he remained a senior partner until his passing.

In light of this tragic loss, we, the members and supporters of the Liberian Swedish Association (LSA), extend our deepest condolences to his bereaved family and friends. May the divine and almighty Heavenly Father bring them solace and comfort during this challenging time. May the soul of the departed, Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, and all those who have passed away, rest in eternal peace.
