Since its establishment, the European Federation of Liberian Associations (EFLA) https://europeanliberians.com/home/ has been supported wholeheartedly by the Liberian Swedish Association (LSA), even amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This steadfast commitment was demonstrated most recently when a delegation from the LSA community traveled to Antwerp, Belgium, to actively participate in and support EFLA's events.
Like many esteemed organizations, the European Federation of Liberian Associations (EFLA) traditionally hosts an Annual General Assembly for its executive officers. During these assemblies, leaders of EFLA and heads of Liberian Associations across Europe convene to discuss pertinent issues concerning the progress and growth of the Federation. Additionally, these gatherings sometimes involve the election of new officers to oversee the affairs of the Federation. Furthermore, EFLA often organizes events to commemorate Liberia's major holidays, such as the July 26th Independence Day, with the aim of bringing together Liberians to celebrate and honor their homeland.
However, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated regulations and restrictions have posed significant challenges to the Federation's ability to host such important events since 2019. Fortunately, with the development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, and a gradual return to normalcy, EFLA was able to resume its activities. Recently, EFLA successfully organized its Annual General Assembly (AGA) on Friday, July 30th, and celebrated Liberia’s Independence Day on Saturday, July 31st, 2021, in Antwerp, Belgium.
Representing the Liberian Swedish Association (LSA) at these events were Mr. David Ford, the President of LSA, along with prominent LSA members such as Mr. Abraham Sandy, Chairman Emeritus of the LSA Malmö Chapter, and Mrs. Jele Chea, former Financial Secretary of LSA. Mr. Francis Mensah, ELFA's current Secretary-General, also attended from Sweden to fulfill his duties to EFLA and support the LSA.
During the AGA, EFLA's Executive Leaders re-elected Mr. Mayango Clarance Arku as President, Mrs. Haja Sesay as Vice President, Mr. Francis Mensah as Secretary General, and Dr. Liana Ursa as Financial Secretary to lead the Federation for the next two years. Discussions among the Executive Leaders centered on initiatives aimed at enhancing and expanding EFLA's operations among Liberian Associations and Communities across Europe.
In observance of Liberia's 174th Independence Day, an outdoor event was held at Park Noord in Antwerp, where Liberians from various European countries gathered to celebrate the independence of their homeland, Liberia.
The leadership and members of the LSA extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the leadership of EFLA and the leadership and members of the United Liberian Association of Belgium (ULAB) for hosting these remarkable events.
