LSA Fundraising Drive To Help Liberian Nurses
Updated: Mar 12

Amidst the COVID19 pandemic devastation, the Liberian Swedish Association, LSA community has embarked on a fundraising effort to help nurses at three of Liberia’s major hospitals.
This initiative was decided during one of LSA General community meetings held on Saturday, April 25, 2020 via the Zoom App.
During this time, it was enacted that members of the LSA community should extend assistance to some Liberian nurses that are in the frontline, helping to save lives and stop the spread of the COVID19 pandemic in Liberia.
As such, it was agreed that strategies be designed with the aim of encouraging Liberians and friends of Liberia in Sweden to make financial donations to this effort. In addition, that the total amount of money generated through this initiative be used to purchase bags of rice and distributed to nurses at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) and Redemption hospitals in Montserrado county, and the newly constructed 14 Military hospital in Margibi county.
Reasons for such selections was due to the fact that these nurses risk their lives on a daily basis while caring for infected patients, but in return gets very little in terms of financial and other essential benefits. Likewise, because Montserrado county, the home of Liberia’s capital city, Monrovia and it's neighboring county, Margibi are highly populated and has the highest number of COVID19 cases in the country.
In keeping with the agreement and in order to make sure that this initiative is successful, the leadership of LSA, including leaders from LSA various chapters have begun calling on all Liberians and friends of Liberia in their constituents to contribute to this worthy cause. No matter how small or large the contribution is, the leadership believes that it will help alleviate some of the difficulties these nurses undergo.
In a WhatsApp post, the President of LSA, Mr. David Ford acknowledged the financial constraint that many LSA members are faced with at this time, due to the emergence of the COVID19 pandemic. However, he pleaded with members to understand that these are not ordinary times in our society, and that the COVID19 pandemic has brought about great suffering on the people of Liberia. Hence, he and other leaders are literally begging every Liberian and friends of Liberia to kindly make a small adjustment in their finances to help out their fellow citizens (human beings), because they need us, the Liberian diaspora communities more than ever before to help them get through this difficult period.
To kick off this initiative, LSA as an organization started off by donating an essential amount from its humanitarian budget, followed by donations from several Liberians.
Donations are currently ongoing until May 31st, 2020. For those wishing to donate can do so through LSA swish # 1234351649.
